Teaching

OEB has a requirement of three semesters of teaching experience for graduation, effective beginning with the graduate cohort entering the program for the academic year 2016-2017. Teaching in the first year is not allowed per GSAS policy. As part of your thesis proposal, you should also develop a teaching plan that will help you balance factors including when courses of interest are being offered and when you might have particularly intense field or lab work.

Students should plan on stipend coverage for 6 semesters over a typical 12 semester Ph.D. Once the student's basic requirement is fulfilled (2 or 3 semesters, depending on admission year), remaining semesters can be covered with teaching, fellowships, or sponsored research support from the student's advisor.
